About the event

Michael A. Pyle has deep roots in Daytona beach having lived beachside from birth to living in Gainsville while studying and teaching at the University of Florida. He returned home in 1983. His Grandparents had a gift shop and antique store on Main St. for many years. His father's law firm, Kinsey, Vincent, Pyle, was on Main St. in the late 1940's, and were the first attorneys for the Speedway. They later moved to NASCAR'S original office on Peninsula where Michael's newpapers were delivered.

"White Sugar, Brown Sugar" is a novel set in Daytona Beach about racial issues in Florida during the 50's and 60's, drug abuse and recovery. It was reprinted in 2024. He also wrote a historical novel called "Cuban Roots", which deals somewhat with the Daytona area as Fulgencio Batista, Cuba's former dictator, lived in Daytona Beach from the 40's through 1957, when he donated one of his two properties to the City of Daytona Beach.
